Elizabeth Thompson, PhD

Elizabeth Thompson, PhD, recently retired after a 35-year career as a leader in the Child Traumatic Stress field. With a 20-year history of active engagement with the NCTSN in various roles and projects, Dr. Thompson's current interests focus on leadership development consulting and facilitating organizational anti-racism initiatives. Dr. Thompson also serves as a member of the NCTSN's Anti-racism Faculty.

Emery, Debra W., PhD

Individual Affiliate - Missouri

Debra Emery was the former Clinical Manager of the Children's Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis. She now works at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and serves as the psychologist on the hematology/oncology team. Her interests include complex trauma and integrated care.

Erika Tullberg

Individual Affiliate - New York

Erika Tullberg, PhD, is a public health professional whose work focuses on identifying and mitigating trauma experienced by children, parents, and staff in the child welfare system. Connected to the NCTSN since 2009, she currently serves as Co-Chair of the NCTSN Child Welfare Committee and is a member of the NCTSN Values Subcommittee. As the lead developer of the Child Welfare Traumameter, an organizational assessment tool to help child welfare agencies assess and improve their practices available on the NCTSN Learning Center, Dr. Tullberg continues to work with those interested in implementing the NCTSN-developed assessment tool. Dr. Tullberg has also developed trainings and interventions to address and mitigate secondary trauma experienced by child welfare staff and foster/adoptive parents. Her insights are informed by 15 years of experience as a foster/adoptive parent and her work within the child welfare system.

Erstling, Susan, LICSW, PhD

Susan Erstling was Senior Vice President, Trauma and Victim Services, Family Service of RI, where she served as Principal Investigator for NCTSN grants. She developed numerous, award winning partnerships which disseminated trauma care and education statewide. Included in these partnerships were collaborations with several state and local police departments, the Adult Correctional Institute, the Parole Board, Adoption RI, Roger William University, School of Criminal Justice, the DOJ funded State Victim Assistance Academy, Hasbro Children's Hospital, Military organizations, and helped integrate the Core Concepts course at RI College, School of Social Work, where she currently  teaches as an adjunct faculty.
Susan is the Board Chairperson of Lucy's Hearth, a trauma informed family shelter, for homeless families and children.

Espinoza Hernandez, Rosa, PsyD

Rosa Espinoza Hernandez Psy.D. (she, her, ella) is a Clinical Psychologist at Children's Hospital Los Angeles  – USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Dr. Hernandez is a bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural psychologist whose clinical work is driven by her commitment to increase access to quality care in underserved communities. Dr. Hernandez works with children and adolescents, ranging from early childhood to transition age youth. Her areas of experience include working with individuals who experienced medical or immigration-related trauma, court- and gang-involved youth, integrated primary care, and families who are involved with the department of child and family services/child protective services. She provides client-centered care and applies culturally sensitive adaptations of various models such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Child-Parent Psychotherapy within her practice.

Evans, Nova

Individual Affiliate - Maryland

Nova is a policy professional who consults and collaborates with state agencies and community partners to implement multi-system and cross-agency policy initiatives to ensure unified approaches to behavioral health service delivery and improve outcomes for children, adults, and families with behavioral health needs. Most recently she initiated and oversaw a Statewide Cross Systems Trauma-Informed Care Transformation initiative in Texas. She has also served as the policy subject matter expert on MH/IDD at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission since 2012. Nova’s specific focus areas include, improving behavioral health services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), increasing access to mental health care for first responders, enhancing school mental health partnerships, and strengthening trauma-informed care policy across systems. She is trained as a trauma-sensitive schools coach, and a trauma-informed care and mindfulness for schools trainer, and works closely with state and local education partners in supporting implementation of trauma-informed practices in schools through a SAMHSA-AWARE grant and legislative implementation.

As a previous intern at Youth and Family Services in Rapid City, SD, I worked with children and families who have experienced trauma. I am moving to Washington where I will work as a therapist with teens who are experiencing co-occurring disorders, often associated with trauma.

Fairbanks Native Association

The Fairbanks Native Association (FNA) Youth and Young Adult Services (YYA) Healing the Hurts project will focus on acts of violence – child abuse and neglect, sexual violence, and suicide – all of which AI/AN experience at disproportionate rates. The purpose of Healing the Hurts is to provide and increase access to effective trauma-focused treatment services in the Fairbanks North Star Borough for AI/AN children, adolescents, and the families who experience trauma events.
