Reconnecting a Family Torn Apart by Violence and Addiction [1]

NCTSN Resource

Resource Description

This webinar shows a therapy session with a family, two parents and their teenage daughter and son, who have been required to seek therapy after the parents had a physical altercation while intoxicated. During the therapy session a secret by the mother that the father has just discoveed is revealed to the surprise of the youths. This challenges the co-therapy team to balance each family member's needs during what becomes a heated confrontation. The therapists must find a way to keep the family emotionally safe as the father—feeling betrayed and confused—reacts in anger, and as the daughter and son then express their fears and anger.
