Domestic Violence Training Video Receives Favorable Review From
Law Enforcement Audience

Over 200 law enforcement and mental health workers recently gave a “thumbs up” to the NCTSN CD-ROM “Cops, Kids and Domestic Violence: Protecting our Future,” presented by Susan Ko during a plenary session at the 7th Annual Law Enforcement and Mental Health Conference June 15, 2006 in Arcadia, CA. Most of the participants stated that they found
the video to be an informative and useful training tool.

The goal of the video resource is to inform law enforcement professionals about child-focused
trauma-informed responses to domestic violence calls. The CD-ROM includes a 20-minute video that delivers five core messages that police officers should understand about children and domestic violence, and a 17-page document that describes traumatic stress, how interventions can help children, actions law enforcement officers can take, and other key resources.

Many of the law enforcement participants said that they learned something new from the video and that they plan to use their newly acquired skills on the
job. Although the mental health professionals stated that they were familiar with the guidance offered in
the video, both groups said that they would
recommend this video to their peers because it is a brief and very informative training video.
