Design and develop HIPAA-compliant web and database services to support application development and deployment by clinicians and researchers utilizing an array of platforms (RedCAP, Force). Integrate these web services with existing data collection and EHR infrastructure.

Provide technical support and leadership for the web service and database; provide and design tools to assist in the management of the database and client/server environment; provide training to staff in the effective utilization of database; provide data warehousing; assist the team with identifying new solutions to data collection problems generated.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support faculty initiated research projects and engage in team- based problem solving by, for example, identifying innovative approaches for collecting, storing and synthesizing data captured using a variety of electronic data capture systems. 


Work requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics or computer-related field, or equivalent coursework or technical training.

Work requires one year of programming or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages, programs or systems. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.


Skills and Knowledge Required: 

This position will require the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Someone who is able to adjust rapidly to evolving needs of multiple researchers and projects.
  • Prior training, experience, and extensive knowledge of HTML, CSS, AJAX, JQuery, JavaScript, XML, and cross-browser compatibility related issues.
  • Experience implementing web-based applications and mobile solutions using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • A good understanding and experience of MVC Frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of Object Oriented Programming.
  • Experience or knowledge on database design, scaling and replication for large-scale use.
  • Understanding of core skills including APEX, Visualforce, SOQL, SOSL.
  • Significant experience in Application development on platform using Apex & Visual Force.
  • Expert knowledge of PHP, MySQL, Apache and Linux servers.
  • Advanced knowledge of both using and administrating Electronic Data Capture systems such as REDCap.
  • Experience building REDCap plugins.

Ensure that external and internal regulations and policies governing data management are met including regulations concerning security, auditability, and privacy.

Maintain interface with technology vendor representatives to gather information and resolve software problems.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other IT operations, professional organizations and software vendors to ensure knowledge of current principles and techniques and interoperability with relevant systems.

Collaborate and consult with clinicians and researchers to analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, and design computational strategies for a wide range of clinical research.

Participate in development of long range planning for new projects and facilities, serve in an advisory capacity on database procedures and methods.

Contribute to overall strategy and planning for the electronic data capture platform.
