Summary: 

The National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS), co-located at UCLA and Duke University, the coordinating center for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director for the Terrorism and Disaster Program at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress. The NCTSN is a unique federally funded initiative that seeks to improve the quality, effectiveness and availability of care and services for children and families who are exposed to a wide range of traumatic experiences, including physical and sexual abuse; domestic, school and community violence; natural disasters and terrorism; and life-threatening injury and illness. Combining knowledge of child development, expertise in child traumatic stress, and attention to cultural perspectives, the NCTSN supports the development and broad adoption of evidence-based and trauma-informed treatments. The NCTSN is a collaboration of 70+ academic, clinical and community service centers. Please note that the NCCTS does not provide direct clinical services to children and families.

As part of the Terrorism and Disaster Program at the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS), the (50% time) TDP Assistant Director will provide leadership and coordination for the National Center's response and recovery activities in regard to terrorism and disaster.  He/She will report to the NCCTS Terrorism & Disaster Program Director and will (1) facilitate planning, coordinating, and monitoring of Center and Network disaster-related activities; (2) develop resources and implement training initiatives for the NCTSN and its partners; and (3) coordinate with national partners including SAMHSA and the National Center for PTSD to enhance our nation's response to children and families impacted by disasters.  This position requires a Masters in psychology or related field, and five years experience in management-level work in child trauma.

Skills and Knowledge Required: 

•    Masters degree in psychology or related field
•    Extensive experience in the development of psychoeducation and intervention resources for  traumatized children, adolescents, and their families, particularly related to terrorism and disaster
•    Special knowledge, skills, and experience in designing and delivering trauma/grief focused interventions, particularly related to terrorism and disaster
•    Demonstrated experience collaborating and working effectively with diverse groups of people in order to accomplish  tasks and/or meet goals and objectives
•    Thorough knowledge of public mental health approaches to providing post-terrorism and post-disaster services
•    Expertise in training and adult learning         
•    Strong written and oral communication skills
